MADONNA - MDMA Tour
/ Moment Factory
Winning Best Tour of 2012 / Billboard Awards 2013
Moment Factory played a pivotal role in crafting the immersive visual experience for Madonna's 2012 MDNA World Tour. Building on their prior collaboration for the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show, Madonna enlisted the Canadian multimedia studio to design and produce video content for 12 songs in the tour's setlist. With a tight four-month timeline, the team developed concepts, conducted video shoots in locations such as India, New York, and Montreal, and produced both 2D and 3D animations to bring each song's narrative to life.
A standout feature of the tour's stage design was the integration of 36 motorized LED cubes, which could be raised and lowered to create dynamic visual landscapes. Moment Factory utilized these cubes to extend the stage's visual storytelling, synchronizing content with the performers' movements and the show's choreography. For instance, during "I'm a Sinner," the audience was taken on a psychedelic train journey through India, while "Girl Gone Wild" featured a photorealistic 3D cathedral setting.
The collaboration was characterized by close coordination with Madonna and her creative team, including show director Michel Laprise, set designer Mark Fisher, and choreographers Rich + Tone. Madonna's active involvement ensured that the visuals complemented her artistic vision, resulting in a show that was both technologically innovative and emotionally resonant.
Johnny Ranger was invited to join the team to work on two tableaux of the show for the song “Hung up” with it’s Voodoo theme doing filming reenactment scenes and creating animations, and for the song transition between “I am a sinner” into “like a prayer” with filming dancing hands to create Mandalas that added a stunning moment to the show.
