REFLECTIONS // REFLEXIONS

“If, as we believe, individualistic thought and private consciousness were indeed the product of reading and writing, then the use of networks and the production of mental universes on screens should lead to the emergence of new forms of mental association.”
— Derrick de Kerckhove

The creation of a singular panoramic image—expanding the horizontal surface of a standard screen tenfold—forces a total reimagining of linear narrative space. Drawing formal inspiration from Asian handscrolls, Johnny Ranger embrace a stylized landscape and surrealist elegance to evoke a contemplative vision of Rio de Janeiro.

Johnny Ranger and musician Manuel Chantre dissolve traditional plots in favor of an open narrativity. They establish a language of rhythms and impressions: a series of living tableaux that reveal reality as a multidimensional field of simultaneous events.

The Architecture of the Invisible
In these "false landscapes," human silhouettes and organic entities merge with graphic codes. These marks evoke the tangled webs of our communication networks—and the more abstract, unfathomable pulse of life itself. The project explores phenomena of intuition and unconscious telepathy between humans and their environment. The "invisible" side of existence. Intuition is approached here as an immediate and individual form of awareness, independent of rational reasoning. These phenomena resonate with related concepts such as perception, the senses, sensuality, tacit knowledge, lived experience, consciousness, inspiration, instinct, feeling, and streams of thought.

Successive layers of data and light that occasionally storm the screen. Moments where representation dissolves into the pure act of creation—the raw energy of the initial sketch and the rhythmic pulse of calligraphic signs as the first gesture of the mind.
