OVO, created and directed by Brazilian choreographer Deborah Colker, is a vibrant Cirque du Soleil arena show that dives into the bustling, colorful world of insects. Originally premiered in 2009 and refreshed in 2024, the show unfolds as a sensory celebration of biodiversity — full of energy, humor, and unexpected tenderness. Against a dynamic ecosystem backdrop, the narrative centers around curiosity, love, and the mystery of a giant egg, symbolizing life’s cycles. OVO continues to tour worldwide, delighting audiences of all ages with its stunning choreography, daring acrobatics, and richly textured visual world.

For the 2024 scenographic revamp of OVO, Johnny Ranger was invited by the show’s stage directors to develop a new video projection design aligned with the updated creative direction. The projections were calibrated to blend seamlessly with set design and lighting, supporting the performers with clarity and restraint. His team designed immersive projections that enhanced the oversized sculptural foliage and environmental backdrops using soft shifts in light, color, and shadow to suggest time-of-day and atmospheric changes. The result was a visual presence that felt organic to the world of OVO — playful, rich, and quietly transformative.
